The Freight Market Just Keeps Humbling the Internet
Every Monday the internet gathers for another episode of…
“This Is Why Trucking Is Finally Dead.”
Different YouTuber.
Different Facebook expert.
Same prediction.
Yet somehow… trucks continue moving, drivers continue getting paid, and dispatchers continue ruining brokers’ weekends.
Let’s look at what actually happened.
While social media was writing trucking’s obituary, Voyager trucks were quietly stacking solid freight.
A few highlights:
Hot Springs, AR → Charlotte, NC
1,637 miles
$6,500
North Las Vegas, NV → Orlando, FL
2,250 miles
$6,600
Marianna, FL → Amherst, NY
1,137 miles
$5,200
Goodyear, AZ → Tullahoma, TN
1,712 miles
$5,200
Greenville, MS → Boca Raton, FL
1,024 miles
$4,500
Not exactly “take whatever you can get” freight.
Every week there’s one load that makes owner-operators spit out their coffee.
This week…
New Castle, PA → Springfield, VA
297 miles.
$1,900.
$6.40 per mile.
Close behind…
Middleburg, FL → Tifton, GA
$6.36 per mile.
Carlisle, PA → Pittsburgh, PA
$6.32 per mile.
No… this is not the new market.
No… your dispatcher isn’t hiding these from you.
These are Freight Unicorns.
Emergency freight.
Customer problems.
Last-minute panic.
Basically… somebody else’s disaster became somebody else’s paycheck.
Take the screenshot.
Enjoy the moment.
Then get back to reality.
Every year somebody announces that Florida freight is impossible.
Funny.
This week we hauled freight from Florida into Indiana…
North Carolina…
Ohio…
Mississippi…
Texas…
Alabama…
Virginia…
New York…
And plenty of freight came right back.
Florida isn’t magic.
Florida isn’t terrible.
Florida simply rewards carriers that actually know what they’re doing.
According to the comments section…
“The brokers have won.”
“Rates are collapsing.”
“Sell your truck.”
Meanwhile…
$6,600 Las Vegas → Orlando.
$6,500 Arkansas → Charlotte.
$5,200 Arizona → Tennessee.
$5,200 Florida → New York.
Somebody forgot to tell the freight.
Our favorite load this week wasn’t the highest-paying.
It was one of the smartest.
Donalsonville, GA → Suffolk, VA
730 miles.
$3,100.
$4.25 per mile.
That’s the kind of freight that quietly pays truck payments while everyone else is busy arguing on Facebook.
Here’s the problem.
Too many owner-operators judge the market by the last bad load they saw.
Professionals judge it by the next good load they’re waiting for.
There’s a difference.
The impatient truck is always busy.
The disciplined truck is usually profitable.
This market isn’t rewarding luck.
It’s rewarding planning.
Relationships.
Positioning.
And knowing when to say…
“No thanks.”
The freight market isn’t dead.
It’s simply become less forgiving of bad decisions.
Stay loaded.
Stay profitable.
And remember…
Hope is not a dispatch strategy.
Every trucking Facebook group has one.
Every YouTube comment section has one.
Every truck stop has one.
He watches a three-minute video…
Immediately becomes the industry’s leading expert.
You could post your actual settlements.
He’ll explain why they’re fake.
You could show bank statements.
Photoshopped.
You could livestream the entire week.
“It’s different where I run.”
You could literally invent teleportation…
“Back in 2017 that wouldn’t have worked.”
There’s an old saying:
To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
The trucking version?
To a driver who’s been getting beat up for years…
Every carrier must be beating up drivers.
To someone who can’t imagine netting $7,000…
Nobody else can either.
It’s not evidence.
It’s projection.
Here’s something fascinating about the human brain.
It doesn’t just reject information.
It rejects information that threatens its worldview.
If you’ve spent ten years believing nobody can consistently make money hauling dry van freight…
Someone making money doesn’t become interesting.
They become impossible.
Your brain has already reached its verdict.
Now it just starts gathering evidence to support it.
